R is a software environment for statistical statistics, data manipulation, graphics description, and reporting, in addition to being a programming language. R is an open-source programming language that is available for free under the GNU License.
R was created by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and is currently developed by the R Development Core Team, of which Chambers is a member.
